Biomet Microfixation LactoSorb® Distraction. A New Application For A Proven Technology

Since its introduction in 1996, the LactoSorb® plating system has remained the most thoroughly proven resorbable plating system on the market. Used successfully in over 50,000 cases to date, the LactoSorb plating system offers an extensive clinical history unmatched by any product of its kind. Now, the benefits of this proven resorbable plating system have been incorporated into the design of a new device for infant mandibular distraction. The new LactoSorb Distraction Device offers a more efficient alternative to titanium distractions for patients up to 2 years of age. Featuring resorbable plating and a flexible drive-screw extension, the LactoSorb Distraction Device offers surgeons and patients a wide range of advantages. The LactoSorb plates eliminate the need for a device-removal surgery and are completely resorbed within approximately one year. The flexible drive-screw extension allows for increased patient comfort during the distraction process. In addition, the final removal of the drive screw after consolidation is a convenient in-office procedure that simply involves backing the drive screw out of the device.
